From the Chestnut Ridge Historical Society:"Jan 19, 1896 a sled full of people left Brethren Church held in Nedrow School; a tree fell on them. Daniel Sheets killed instantly; he was the driver.
Katie Saylor daughter of Uriah 15 yrs died 5 days later.
Curtis Baker s[on]/o[f] Henry died 7 days later.
Also in the sled were: Samuel & wife Neiderhiser, Annie Miller, Joseph Singo's two sons; 2 children of Daniel Sheets.
Nedrow School in Donegal Twp; Folks in sled lived in Somerset Co.
Minister at church: Frederick Murray.
A monument is located near where Nedrow School Set with date of accident and three killed on it."
Location of monument: "go to Jones Mill, on RT 31 fo 4 1/2 miles from Rt 711 intersection, to top of long hill. Turn right onto Fire Tower Rd at Laurel Ridge State Park sign. Go 1 mile and turn right. Continue past the Ferguson-Nedrow Cemetery. Continue about 1 mile to monument on right about 100 feet off road. This is a rough dirt Forbs State Forest road Monument is four sided and pointed, about 4 feet high, and on a base. It reads GPS Location, 40 degrees 03.45N; 079 degrees 17.78W
