Children baptized at St James Northam Parish, Goochland Co The Douglas Register: [The Register of baptisms begins 1756 so any children born earlier would not be listed.]
John Mosely & Ann Williams, a son named Jesse born Feb 13, 1757, baptized 20 Mar 1757.
....a son named James born Dec 25, 1759. Baptized 26 Jan 1760
....a daughter named Mary born Jun 15, 1765, Baptized 23 May 1766
....a daughter named Nancy born Jan 1769, Baptized 5 Jul 1769.
The marriage of John to Ann Williams was recorded in the Parish Register, as well, 27 Dec 1752.

3 Nov 1760 John Moseley produced a commission from the Honbl. Francis Fauquier, Esq. Lt. Gov. & commander in Chief of Virginia to be a Captain in the Militia.

26 Nov 1768 John Moseley of Bute Co NC to Robert Coleman of Goochland. 104 acres on Bird Creek adj. Thomas Poor, William Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Joseph Peace & James George. Signed: John Moseley. Wit: Will. Michell, John Bradshaw, Wright Mourland, John Hopper.

John and Ann apparently went with her family to North Carolina - Bute Co, which became Warren Co in 1779. The following deed is interesting in that Edward, Sampson & James Moseley are unknown to me and certainly not brothers of John. This deed appears to be dated when John & Ann were having babies baptized in Goochland Co. Whether or not the John listed with him is that same as this man seems unlikely yet there is no question later records of John Moseley are those of the man who married Ann Williams in Goochland. And it was witnessed by Ann Moseley.

There is other evidence of two John Moseleys living in this area. The other John was married to a lady named Margaret. He is likely the John of the above deed.

Deed of Gift, dated 2 March 1774, of negroes, household goods, and stock. Wit: JOHN TODD, SOLMN. HIGGINS, JAMES STEWART. Recorded August Court 1774.
Note: John Todd was married to William Williams daughter Mary - the Todds lived near John Moseley in Bute/Warren County.

John Moseley was often administrator of estates; he and his sons were frequent buyers at estate sales.

p.143 10 & 11 Feb 1784, presented to Oct Court 1785. Estate Sale of Edward Clanton. Purchasers included the Executors William Clanton & John Moseley. Also Jesse Moseley and James Moseley. Edward Clanton Jr also made purchases.
Although there continues to be a close relationship between the Moseleys and Clantons, I have never found an intermarriage.

26 Aug 1788. The estate divided in equal amounts to: Rhoday Todd, George Todd, Sarah Todd, Augustin Balthrop, John Smelley. Dower to be laid off.

p.59 25 Feb 1789 John Moseley to William Johnson, Chancery Court Justice. Bond of 500 £ to insur that he keep the ferry over Roanoke River properly.

Named in receipts & disbursements, included James Moseley, John Moseley, John Moseley Junr. [James was later married to Benjamin's sister Frances, John Jr. was married to Benjamin's sister Jane.]

John Moseley being sick and weak in boddy... son Joseph Moseley - negroes Natt and Patience. Son John Moseley - negroes Jack and Joe. Daughter Elizabeth Pittillo - lend all the land below the road to the pond below Middlesex's house during her widowhood, and lend her negroes Boom, Phil, and Hannar, etc. with reversion to her children. Son Jessee Moseley - rest of my land and Negroes Middlesex, Sarah, and Brister. Daughter Mary Kimbell - negroes Easter. Cilley, and Clarice; Daughter Nancey (Nanny?) Gunn - negroes Ephraim, Will, and Sidney. Son James Moseley - negroes Stafford, Henry, and Andrew. Daughter Elizabeth Pittillo - lend negroes Robin, Will, and Emanuel (Phil's children) for her widowhood with reversion to her children. Ex. Benjamin Kimball, Jesse Moseley wit: Dudley Clanton, John Colclough, John Stacy. Probate says Jesse did not qualify as exr. until May court 1796
Apparently the son William, named in the deed of gift of William Williams in 1774 had died - he is not named in this will, nor does he appear in the Warren Co records. Benjamin Kimball was his son-in-law, married to daughter Mary - he served as Executor in 1795, see next.

p.74 13 Mar 1795 presented May Court 1795 - Inventory of the Estate of John Moseley, dec'd, by Benjamin Kimbell, Extr. It is said to have included a silver watch & studs, gold buttons.

p.81 Also presented at the May Court of 1795. Account of the Estate sale of John Moseley. It included the following: sons James Moseley & Jesse Moseley, sons-in-law George Gunn & Benjamin Kimball, daughter Elizabeth Pattillo. Other familiar surnames include Abraham Clanton, Elizabeth Williams, William Kimbell, Elizabeth Shearin, Aaron Shearin, Dudley Clanton, Ramsom Kimbell, etc.
A negro was given to James Moseley by the other legatees to void a Deed of Gift.

p.99 16 Mar 1795. George Gunn of Brunswick Co VA, in right of his wife [Anne Moseley] gave bond of 1000 £ to insure paying his share of debts of the Estate of John Moseley, dec'd, to Benjamin Kimbell, Extr. Security with Jesse Mosely. Wit: Nancy Bell.
p.103 26 Aug 1795. Bond of James Moseley & Ransom Kimbell for 500 £ to insure that they pay their part of the debts of John Moseley, dec'd. To be paid to Benjamin Kimbell. Wit: Henry Fitts
p.110 26 Mar 1795. Joseph Moseley, of Edgefield, SC, his bond of 1000 £, etc. as above Security for Joseph was also his brother Jesse. Wit: George Gunn, James Moseley.
