Moses Israel LACOMBE

(18 Sep 1832 - 16 Nov 1908)

The following obituary was transcribed from the Menominee County Journal, 21 November 1908. Because it was taken from the Daggett local news column, the term "this place" can be taken to refer to the village of Daggett.
By the passing away of Moses LaComb, Stephenson Township lost another of its pioneers.  Mr. LaComb was born in Canada in 1832 and was married in 1855.  Forty years ago he moved with his family to Fort Edward, New York, where he was employed in the sawmills.  Moving to Daggett 27 years ago, he engaged in farming, which he followed until his death, and was very successful.  Mrs. LaComb died five years ago on the date of her golden wedding anniversary.  Mr. LaComb has always enjoyed good health, had never been sick until last spring when he began to fail, a serious case of bronchitis developing, and this, in connection with the infirmities of old age, resulted in his death which occurred last Sunday evening at 9:40.  Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. LaComb, eight of them now living.  They are: Mrs. Louis Cahee of this place, Ed LaComb of Escanaba, Mrs. Odeal Hart of Glens Falls, N.Y., Delore LaComb of Escanaba, George LaComb of this place, Napoleon LaComb of Stephenson, Will LaComb of this place, and Mrs. Vital Rondo of Escanaba, most of them being present at the funeral, which took place Wednesday morning, with services at the R. C. Church, Stephenson, Rev. Fr. (illegible) officiating.  The funeral was one of the largest ever seen here, more than (illegible) rigs being in the procession.  The surviving relatives have the heartfelt sympathy of all in their affliction.

Christened Israel Moyse Lacombe -- LDS individual ordinances done under that name (March 1992 IGI). Later went by "Mose" or "Moses." Surname usually
spelled "LaComb" in United States.
