News Clipping and Obituary for Adelaide Truckey Roberts:
"Garden Resident Is 94 Years Old
Garden residents will be interested in a picture taken recently of the peninsula’s oldest inhabitant, Mrs. Adelaide Roberts, who has resided for the past four years with her son, Edgar LaBute. Almost ninety-four years of a life, which has been characterized by great activity, have began to exact a toll during the last few months by lessening her ambition, though she is able to go outside alone when she wills.
Born on the West Side of Green Bay on November 30, on the site of the Old Fort, the daughter of Antone Truckey, has had a very interesting career. Her father, who was a government blacksmith at Fort Howard, where 2,000 troops were stationed, turned Flint lock guns into cap guns, made tomahawks, spears, and traps for the Indians of that vicinity.
When the Civil War broke out, she was married to John Slorite, who left his bride to serve his country and never returned since he was killed in his first engagement.
Later she became the wife of Captain Lambert LaBute who sailed the Lakes. To this union were born her only children, Edgar and Edith, who is now Mrs. Russe Deloria of Grand Marais.
Fifty five years ago, Ferdinand Roberts brought her, as his wife, to the farm on which she now is living. He died nine years ago. She had certainly known the stern realities of life for she was the oldest of a family of four girls and five boys. Two of the latter, George J. Truckey of Garden and Alexander, the youngest member of the family, who lives with his daughter, Mrs. James Adams of Kate’s Bay, are the only other ones living. Their father lived to be ninety eight years of age, and Mrs. Roberts bids fair to equal that record. Escanaba Daily Press, August 15, 1934.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning for Mrs. Adelaide Roberts at St. John the Baptist church at 8:00 a.m. Rev. Father V.C. Savageau officiating. Escanaba Daily Press, Sunday, December 9, 1934.
