Rose Melva LONDRE

(12 Jun 1909 - 21 Apr 1990)

Biography, by Lori Dollevoet, from Find-A-Grave memorial #29585879:
Rose was the daughter of Hubert and Hosanna Rose (Venne) Londre. Her birth certificate at first listed the date of birth as June 27, 1909 and her name as Melva Landrie. It was later corrected with Landrie crossed out and the name typed in as Rose Londre. The date of the 27th of June was also crossed out and the date of the 12th was typed above. For some reason her death certificate Gives her name as Rose with the incorrect birthdate. Her actual birth was in fact June 12, 1909.
Rose's 1st husband was Richard Blahnik and second was Frank Frye. She was an excellent seamstress and made clothing during the depression. She was from French Canadian descent and grew up living in logging camps where her father would work. She was the oldest of 9 children. In grade school they moved down from upper Wisconsin to the Fox Valley where Rose first learned to speak English. The family had stayed among the French speaking families prior to this time. She was a crack shot with the gun and could beat her brothers in target practice. Her father then took jobs as a carpenter and she would have to translate words on blueprints since he could not read English. She learned about building houses and made blue prints that helped her 1st husband, Richard, build a couple of houses. She met Dick Blahnik in Neenah and married on July 08, 1924. They had only two children that lived to adulthood, Bette Jane (Nickasch) and Joyce (LaCount). They lost three children and had a difficult time during the depression which lead to a divorce. She married her second husband, Frank Frye on November 17, 1938 in Green Bay, WI Frank, became a police officer. Shortly after he retired he was murdered. This murder was never solved. She was so heart-broken by his loss that shortly afterwards she suffered a stroke and her health declined. She did survive but had long term health issues from the stroke. She was fairly short and had auburn color hair with hazel eyes.
