Individual Details
Felix X. VINCENT dit JARET
(21 Dec 1846 - 26 Apr 1928)
Naturalization: Declaration of Intention, 1 OCT 1883. Final citizenship papers, 8 MAY 1893. (Menominee County Clerk) -- not sure now if these are really his records. The 1910 Census indicates that he was an alien. There was also a Francis Xavier Vincent living in Daggett. The dates do match those of Marguerite Raboin Vincent's family records, however.
Felix's first cousin, Jean Baptiste HANDFIELD (RIN #2978) married Zoé BERTRAND, the sister of Rose Delima, on 7 Feb 1865. Perhaps this is how Felix and Rose met.
Occupation: Laboror, Grocer, Tallyman, Lumber inspector
NOT listed in Polk's Menominee City Directory for 1887! Where was he?

"Felix Jaret" "fils de Michel Jaret dit Vincent, cultivateur, and de Louise Ayet dite Malo de cette paroisse."https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1971-28005-9967-82?cc=1321742&wc=MMY5-CQY:n360493049
Occupation
Felix is cited on this census twice: once with his parents and once with his brother and sister-in-law, Michel Jarret and Elmire Duhamel, where he was described as a farmer.Marriage
Name on the record is Felix Vincent. Present at the wedding were Romain Bertrand (who did not know how to sign) and the following who did sign: Pierre Lucier, Theo Bertrand, Elmire Bertrand, Paul Collette, Julie Bertrand, Elmire Dansereau, Louise Vincent, Zoe Vincent, and Onesime Bissonet. Rose signed her name as " Rose Delima Bertrand et Vincent."https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1961-28021-32944-87?cc=1321742&wc=MMY5-HY1:n1989676989
Occupation
Both the baptism record (1875) and burial record (1880) of his son, Stanislas, describe Felix as a "commerçant" (shopkeeper), and the 1876 City Directory describes him as a clerk. There seems to be an overlap with his job as a bailiff; perhaps he helped with the Bertrand family grocery store full- or part-time.Residence (family)
This is the first directory that shows Felix living in Montreal. He was working as a clerk.Residence (family)
Still at this address in the 1878 City Directory. Does not appear in the 1881 directory (this is the year they immigrated to the United States).Occupation
Worked as a bailiff in the law office of his brother-in-law, Theophane Bertrand. The office was very close to the courthouse and City Hall.Immigration
-- Felix Vincent was listed as a bailiff in the 1881 City Directory of Montreal.-- Information for city directories was usually collected late the previous year.
-- George Vincent, son of Felix and Rose, was born in De Pere on 12 Feb 1880.
Conclusion: The Vincent family immigrated from Montreal to De Pere, Wisconsin late in 1880 or very early in 1881. Because of the difficulty of traveling in the worst winter months, especially with a very pregnant wife, it seems more likely to have been in late Fall of 1880.
Residence (family)
Felix, Wilfred (sic), and Virginia each have listings. Felix and Wilfred are listed as laborers.Neighbors on the 900 block of Dunlap were: Victor DeBusch (908), Delphese LeBrun (909), Oville Hetu (909), Charles Weeks (910), Isaac Marcouiller (912), Maxime Marcouiller (912), Napoleon Gayo (915), Louis Saint-Yves (915), Maxime Marcouiller -- Grocer (916), Joseph LeBrun (917), Frank Stanforth (917), Josephine Heroux (918), and William Martell (918).
Occupation
1900 Census gave as his occupation: "keeps grocery store"Census (family)
Enumerated with this family were:-- Felix Vincent, a grocer, age 53, born Dec 1846 in Canada
-- Rose Vincent, his wife, age 45, born Feb 1855 in Canada
and children:
-- Wilfrid Vincent, a bookkeeper, age 22, born Dec 1877 in Canada
-- George Vincent, a machinist and iron worker, age 19, born Feb 1881 in Wisconsin
-- Regina Vincent, age 20, born Jul 1879 in Canada
-- Mary Vincent, age 16, born Aug 1884 in Wisconsin
-- Eva Vincent, age 8, born Apr 1892 in Michigan
-- Alice Vincent, age 6, born Feb 1894 in Michigan
They owned their house mortgage free. All could read and write, but Rose did not speak English. Felix and Rose had been married for 27 years, and she had borne 12 children, six of whom were still living. They had immigrated in 1881, and his naturalization was pending.

Census (family)
Enumerated with this family were Phelix Vincent, a lumber inspector at a saw mill, age 63; his wife, Rose D. Vincent, age 56; and children: Marie R. Vincent, a clerk in a dry goods store, age 26; Eva D. Vincent, age 18; and Alice M. Vincent, age 17. Also a boarder, Joseph Lacombe, age 24.According to this census, Phelix (sic) and Rose had been married for 36 years. He had immigrated in 1881, and was an alien (not naturalized). Rose is reported to have immigrated in 1865, but I know that she came at the same time as her husband. Did she perhaps make an earlier visit? I have not seen other evidence of it. Rose had borne twelve children, six of whom were still alive.
