Joseph "Henry" Deschane was born in the Fort Howard area of Green Bay on June 17, 1883 to Moise Deschane and Marie Champeau. He married Catherine Kuipers at Holy Cross Church, Bay Settlement, on Sept. 29, 1909. He was a carpenter and building contractor in Green Bay for many years, and worked at the L.D. Smith shipyard in Sturgeon Bay. He also farmed in the Bay Settlement area, serving as the secretary of the local farmers union W-7837 in Scott in 1918.
