Edward Deschene was killed when lightening struck Holy Cross Church in Bay Settlement during Mass. This story is courtesy of Jane Rollin:
This is the story that was in the local newspaper regarding the lightning strike to the church. Martha Deschane Jolly told her story: "Eddie was only 21 years when he was struck by lightning while attending Mass at Holy Cross Church in Bay Settlement. He went into the lumber camps that year for the first time. His mother (Matilda) was worried that something would happen to him in the woods, but he came home safely, only to be killed a short time later at church. He is buried in Holy Cross Church Cemetery."
