Chester---Joe Harden Sanders, 79, died Tuesday in a local hospital after a long illness. Born in Chester County, he was a son of the late John and Annie Kirkpatrick Sanders. He was a retired Springs Mills executive and manager of the Springstein Plant for 43 years. Mr. Sanders was a graduate of Clemson University, a member of the Board of Directors of the Chester Telephone Company, Chester Building and Loan Association and Limestone College. He was a member of the Chester City council for 14 years, a member of the Board of Deacons of the First Baptist Church, a member of Chester Masonic Lodge 24 AFM, the Bejar Temple of the Shrine and the Chester Lions Club. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Frances Davis Kirkpatrick; a son, John D. Sanders of Beaufort; two daughters, Mrs. Joe Ellen Harris of Tampa, Fla., and Mrs. Frances Ada Haverty of San Francisco, Calif; a brother, Robert Sanders of Winston-Salem, N. C.; and a sister, Mrs. Evelyn S. Wallace of Gastonia, N. C. Services will be 6 p.m. today at Chester Memorial Gardens. Barron Funeral Home is in charge.
