The Telegraph, Alton, Illinois, October 21, 2004: Ruby H. Mabus, 92, died at 7:40 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at Carlinville Area Hospital. She was born Aug. 12, 1912, in DuQuoin, Ill., to the late James and Julie (Weston) Merkel. Her marriage to Glen Mabus took place on July 7, 1930, in South Bend, Ind. He preceded her in death Nov. 15, 2003. A homemaker, she was a member of Charity Baptist Church in Carlinville. Surviving are five children, Jerry Mabus and wife, Becky, of Carlinville, Phillip Mabus and wife, Sherry, of Shipman, Paul Mabus and wife, Suzanne, of Trinity, Fla., Merrill Mabus and wife, Celeste, of Chesterfield, Ill., Harold Mabus and wife, Becky, of Springfield, Mo.; son-in-law, David Hearn of Litchfield; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Beside her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Hearn; grandson, Chris Mabus; great-grandson, Clint Stout; and two brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Charity Baptist Church in rural Carlinville by the Rev. John Mabus and the Rev. Ken Spires. Burial will follow in the Charity Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alex Frerichs Medical Care or Charity Baptist Church.
