The State Journal-Register, Springfield, IL, March 1, 2006, Page: 24: GIRARD - Norma Jannett Mabus-Spann Hanks, 78, of Girard died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at Memorial Medical Center. She was born June 16, 1927, in Mulkey Town, the daughter of Harry Edward and Pearl M. Ackley Mabus. She married L. E. "Red" Spann in 1945; they later divorced. She married Raymond W. Hanks in 1974; he died in 1977. Mrs. Spann Hanks graduated from Sesser High School in 1945. She owned Norma's Boutique in Virden for several years and retired from the Banks and Trust Division of the state of Illinois in 1973. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Girard, Rebecka Lodge in Girard, Order of the Eastern Star and Royal Neighbors of America 273. Survivors: two sons, David Lynn (wife, Sherry) Spann of Girard and Daniel Edward (wife, Linda) Spann of Springfield; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Jean L. Bettis of Palmyra; and brother, Billy E. Mabus of Palmyra. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, the Rev. Stephen Taylor officiating. Burial: Girard Cemetery.
