Lois E "Red" Spann

The State Journal-Register, Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois, Friday, August 14, 1987: L. E. "Red" Spann 60, of Chatham, died at 4:35 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Hospital. He was born in Franklin County, the son of Archie E. and Lula E. Vaughn Spann. Preceding him in death was his brother, Ernest, in 1975. Mr. Spann was a member of Bear Point Free Will Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, and a member of VFW Post 755; Local No. 1027 UAW; and UCT. He retired after 32 years at Allis Chalmers. He also had worked for 13 years at Curtis Detective Agency in security. Most recently, he had been employed by Ball-Chatham School District as a bus driver. Surviving are his wife, Rosemary; two sons, David of Springfield and Daniel E. of Chatham; six grandchildren; his mother, Lula Spann of Sesser; one brother, Marion Spann of Springfield; five sisters, Helen Cockrum of Decatur, Zella Bates of Sesser, Pearl Prior of Gilbertsville, Ky., Pauline Berg of Mulkeytown, and Viva Morgan of Jupiter, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Bear Point Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Cook and the Rev. R. L. Scott officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Bisch Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
