Platteville---Mrs. Marcia Grindell, 82, operator of the Grindell Granite Co., monument works here until 1966, who had long been active in Platteville civic affairs, died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was the former Marcia Rundell, and was born on a farm near Livingston in 1885.
She was a graduate of Platteville Normal School, then taught at La Crosse and Cumberland, Wis. She was married on Aug. 29, 1908, to John L. Grindell. The couple lived at Cumberland until 1915, when they moved to Platteville. Mr. Grindell operated the Grindell Granite Co. until his death in1948, after which Mrs. Grindell continued the business until her retirement.
She was a member of the Platteville United Methodist Church and a charter member of its Women's Society of Christian Service. She was a member of the George Reams chapter, DAR, here and served as its first registrar. Mrs. Grindell was also a charter member of the Grant County Historical Society, a member of the Wisconsin Historical Society and the Wisconsin Genealogical Society, an honorary life member of the Platteville chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Platteville Garden Club and Platteville Tourist Club.
Surviving are five sons, John E., Colorado Springs, Colo.; Dr. George A. Gordon, Wis.; Robert L., Fredrick; Edgar K., and Richard W., both of Platteville; a sister Florence Rundell, Platteville; 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Friends may call at the Mergen Funeral Home, Platteville, from 2 p.m. Thursday until time of services. Funeral rites will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Frank Gaylord of the Platteville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery here.
