John Edgar Grindell

Colorado Springs Gazette, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Tuesday, march 29, 1988, Page 13, Col. 3: Maj. John E. Grindell, 78, of Colorado Springs died Sunday. Maj. Grindell served in the Army for 20 years in the judge advocate general corps. He had served with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C. and later served at Fort Carson. After retiring, he entered private practice. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Swan-Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade Ave. Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2318 N. Cascade Ave., with the Rev. Gerald Bruggeman officiating. Burial will be in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver.

Mr. Grindell was born June 9, 1909 in Platteville, Wis., to John L. and Marcia (Rundell) Grindell. He had lived in Colorado Springs 34 years. Mr. Grindell graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Law and did post graduate work at Colorado College. Mr. Grindell was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, the American and Wisconsin bar associations, the American Trial Lawyers Association and the National Riflemen's Association. He had been the captain of the fort Carson pistol and rifle teams. He was married June 21, 1939, in Sparta, Wis., to Anna Kline, who survives. Mr. Gindell also is survived by four daughters, Terri Thomas, and A. Jean Oswald, both of Colorado Springs, Kathleen Sible of Yucaipa, Calif., and Capt. Cynthia Grindell-Sowers of Austin, Texas; three brothers, Robert L. of Frederic, Wis., and Edgar and Richard, both of Platteville; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters.
