Kathleen Kirkpatrick was born 11 June 1905 in Dalton, Chariton County, Missouri. She attended Washington University in St. Louis, where she graduated with a B.A. in Library Science. She also attended graduate school at the University of Iowa and the University of Minnesota. She married 25 September 1925, in Kirkwood, St. Louis County, Missouri, Carl Han Fischer, who was born 22 August 1903. Carl received his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Iowa in 1932. He taught at the University of Michigan for many years. He died 21 December 1988, at Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, Michigan. Kathleen continues to live in Ann Arbor.
