Obituary of 10-14-1981 in Graphic Newspaper, Johnson Co., AR--James L. Porter, aged 82 of Clarksville died Saturday in the Johnson County Regional Hospital. The son of the late Augustus and Marvilla Gardner Porter, he was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, a retired farmer and miner and a Veteran of World War I where he served in the Army's Volunteer Company L. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Varnell Porter, four sons, Bill Porter and Buel Porter of Clarksville, Lyall Porter of Harmony and Gus Porter of Quincy, Calif; one daughter Trixie Buchanan of Phoenix, Ariz., two step-sons, John Lee of Russellville, and Wendell Lee of Clarksville, and 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Harmony Presbyterian Church with Elder Garvin Green officiating. Burial was in Harmony Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Sidney Garrett, James Ogilvie, Joe Porter, Seth Bennett, Ferrell King and Heartsill Bean.
