Individual Details

Margaret Hester McCance

(15 Dec 1870 - 23 Jan 1952)

1880 Census listed Hester as a male; we believe she was erroneusly listed. We have been searching the family tree for a Hester who was a cousin to Lillian Bell Garner Kirkpatrick. Pictures exist of "Cousin Hester's daughter" and a Hester Bischoff appeared on Robert Garner's pension papers in 1910 attesting to Lillian's birth and parentage. Hester Bischoff was in Dawson County, NE in 1910 when she signed the papers about Robert's pension.

According to the book, No Time on My Hands, by Nellie Snyder Yost, Hester was a teacher in the Cozad, Nebraska area.

E-Mail from Dan McCance 19 Dec. 1998 shows name as Margaret Hester McCance.

Gravestone is recorded in various printed sources as Margaret H. Bisghoff instead of Bischoff.

On the 1930 Census of St. Louis, Missouri, Margaret Bischoff is listed as age 59, born in Missouri, a lodger who works as a maid in St. Louis City Hospital. It shows her mother born in Illinois and father in Ohio. She is a widow. She lives on Lafayette Ave. Record is located at District 96-378, supervisor's Dist. 9, Sheet 1B, taken on May 6, 1930.

On the 1940 Census of Pulaski Co., Missouri, Hester Bischoff is living with her daughter Gladys Dye and son-in-law George Dye.
