Ruel L. Underwood

Wenatchee World, Wenatchee, Washington, 28 October 1984: Ruel Lula Dawson, 79, Wenatchee, died at her home Friday afternoon following an extended illness. She was born Ruel Lula Underwood on Nov. 29, 1904, at Clarksville, Ark., and received her education in that area. She married L. C. Dawson on Jan. 3, 1925, in Mena, Ark., where she worked as a substitute teacher. In 1941 they moved to Washington, settling at Carlton. They later lived at Chelan prior to moving to Malaga in 1945. Her husband preceded her in death in 1961. Mrs. Dawson was a member of the Wenatchee Valley Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Henry Dawson, Pensacola, Florida; and Don Dawson, East Wenatchee; six daughters, Ruth Wiley, Mildred Dawson and Dorothy Dawson, all of Wenatchee, Mrs. Robert (Opal) Smith, Ephrata, Mrs. Orville (Helen) Mabes, East Wenatchee, and Mrs. Don (Dora) McClain, Leavenworth; one sister Ruby Harper, Camdon, Ark.; a half brother, Almond Underwood, Stradford, Okla.; 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, and one grandson. Telford's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
