Individual Details
John Albert Kirkpatrick
(3 Jun 1846 - 2 Apr 1906)
John A., the third child of Thomas Shelby and Louisa (Pettyjohn) Kirkpatrick, was born in Iowa County, Wisconsin, circa 1846 (although the 1870 census suggests 1842). He died 3 April 1906 in Wausau, Wisconsin.
He married Josephine Sylvia Cramer on 2 December 1868 at Boscobel, Grant County, Wisconsin. She was born circa 1845 in Indiana. John at this time resided at Hickory Grove, Wisconsin. His wife Josephine was apparently really named Isiphena or Isiphene, but chose to change this through usage to Josephine. Josephine was the daughter of Joel and Hannah Cramer and she was born at New Castle, Indiana. She died, apparently at the home of her son William at Sandpoint, Bonner County, Idaho, 18 October 1907.
John Albert Kirkpatrick served in the Union Army in the Civil War. He enrolled 14 January 1864 and was assigned as a private to Company I, 33rd Regiment, Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, and on 22 July 1865 transferred to the Company I, 11th Regiment, Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. He was mustered out with this regiment at Mobile Alabama, 4 September 1865. At the time of his enlistment John A. Kirkpatrick was a farmer, almost 18 years of age, standing 5 feet 10 inches, with blue eyes, light complexion, and light hair.
There were ten (10) children born of the marriage.
On the 1880 U. S. Census Albert is living at Dunleith, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois with his wife Josephine and children Laura, George, William, and Milton. Also in the home is an adopted son, John, age 16, born in New York. Albert is a farm laborer.
On the 1900 U. S. Census of Mosinee, Marathon Co., Wisconsin, John Kirkpatrick appears with his wife Josephine and children Myrtle, Jennie, Josephine, Frederick and Marie. John is a farmer.
