Doris Darlene Marquis, 91 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Doris was born December 9, 1924 in Furnas County, Nebraska on the family homestead farm near Beaver City, the youngest of three children, to Christopher Harry and Ethel Lucinda (Turner) Clason. She received her education from Beaver City Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1942.
On August 3, 1942, Doris was united in marriage to William “Bill” Creel Marquis, Jr. The couple made their home in California, while Bill served with the United States Navy during World War II. After the war, they moved back to the Beaver City area, where they farmed alongside her family. Doris and Bill were blessed with four children: Janet, Jerry, Nancy and Steven. In 1955, the family moved to Holdrege where Doris worked as a clerk at Noble Drugstore, the Cheese Corner and Patty’s Hallmark. Doris loved music, spending time with her grandchildren and watching their many events, watching any sports, especially Husker Football and Laker Basketball and enjoyed “coffeeing” with her friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Holdrege and the Jenny Adams Circle.
Doris was preceded in death by; her parents; brother, Wayne Clason and wife, Elsie; and sister: Evelyn Keezer and husband, Jesse.
She leaves to celebrate her life; her children: Janet Ashley and her husband, John of Holdrege, Jerry Marquis of Holdrege, Nancy Pillen and her husband, Todd of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Steven Marquis and his wife, Cindy of Lincoln, Nebraska; nine grandchildren: Bradley Ashley and his wife, Tammy of Holdrege, Linette Chewey and her husband, Lee of Stephens City, Virginia, Tami Ashley and her husband, Jeff DeWitt of Lincoln, Nebraska, Lisa Neil and her husband, Russ of Adams, Nebraska, Jaime Watson and his wife, Miranda of Lincoln, Jennifer Trevarrow and her husband, Brandon of Lincoln, Shane Marquis, Justin Marquis and Kyle Marquis all of Lincoln; 12 great-grandchildren: Jared Ashley, Jessica David and her husband, Brett, Johnathon Neil, Kaylee Chewey, Seth Chewey, Hannah Neil, Zach Ashley, Jacob Neil, Camden Trevarrow, Anniston Trevarrow, Nolan Watson and Myles Watson; one great-great granddaughter, Kollyns David; along with many extended family and many friends.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
