Southern Illinoisan, Carbondale, Illinois, Wednesday, April 30, 1997: CHESTER - Wilbur F. Crowder, 70, died at 6:08 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 1997, in Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in WelgePechacek Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Willig officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the St. John redecorating fund or the Chester Nutrition Site.

Mr. Crowder retired from Menard Correctional Center as a vocational instructor after 36 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Chester Seniors, Illinois Police Association, AFSCME Local 424 Retiree and was a former toll taker for the Chester bridge. He was born July 30, 1926, in Sesser to Hallie F. and Flora M. Cockrum Crowder. He married Eileen Sanneman on June 2, 1956, in Evansville. She survives. Other survivors include two sisters-in-law, Mary McIntyre of Chester and Ellis Sugar of Florissant, Mo.; nieces and nephews; and cousins. His parents preceded him in death.
