Edwin Asbury Kirkpatrick

Edwin, the youngest of Francis Asbury Kirkpatrick's children, was born 29 September 1862 in Mahaska County, Iowa. He died 4 January 1937 at DeLand, Florida. He was married twice, his first wife being Florence May Clifford whom he married 20 August 1895, Stanton, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Everett F. Clifford, a farmer. Florence was born 23 May 1871 and died 22 March 1926. Kirkpatrick remarried on 2 May 1927 to Annis Louise Kinsman, daughter of Frank Eugene Kinsman of Plainfield, New Jersey.
Edwin Asbury Kirkpatrick was an outstanding Psychologist, particularly a pioneer in child psychology. he was educated in rural schools and took his B.S. at Iowa State College in 1887 and M.Ph. in 1889. From 1887 to 1889 he was a teaching assistant in mathematics and English at Iowa State. He was a scholar and fellow at Clark University from 1889 to 1891. He took a post-graduate course at Harvard. He was a lecturer or instructor in Psychology at a long list of schools -- Smith College, Columbia College, University of Chicago, the University of Virginia, Cornell University, the University of West Virginia, the University of Vermont and Boston University. He was author of a dozen books in his field.
In religion, he was a Congregationalist. For recreation he favored mountain climbing, tennis and handball. Edwin A. Kirkpatrick was listed in WHO's WHO IN AMERICA.
There were four children born of the first marriage.

Kirkpatrick, 74, Was Head of Psychology Department 30 Years. Edwin Asbury Kirkpatrick, retired head of the psychology department at the state teachers college, died yesterday from a heart attack while vacationing in Deland, Fla. He was in his 7th year. A former resident of North Leominster, he had made his home during the past year at Eagle Bridge, N. Y. For 50 years he was a member of the faculty at the teachers college, retiring nine years ago from active duties. While in this city, Mr. Kirkpatrick made many friends and they today expressed deepest felling at his passing. William D. Parkinson, a close associate for many years, called him "an appreciative, companionable, cordial sort of man."
