Rifle Shot Ends Life of Mary Etta Curtice Sunday. Mary Etta Curtice, 15-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Curtice of Willow Island was accidentally shot and killed shortly before noon Sunday. She and her cousin, Tommy Williams, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Williams, were target shooting with rifles at tin cans on the Curtice farm when the accident happened. The children had just been called to the house to go to an uncle's for dinner and wanted to take one more shot. A bullet struck Mary Etta in the back of the head and she died instantly The County Attorney, Hugh Stuart, after visiting the farm and talking with all concerned, declared that the tragedy was purely an accident and that no inquest would be held. Funeral services were held from Evangelical-United Brethren church here with the pastor, Rev. F. F. Gross officiating. Burial was made in the Grand View cemetery at Willow Island. Mary Etta Curtice was born at Willow Island, Nebraska on August 23, 1936, and reached the end of her life when only 15 years, six months and 25 days of age. She was a sophomore in the Cozad High school and her classmates honored her name by attending the services. She is survived by her parents, two brothers, Harold, stationed at Scott Field, Illinois, with the armed forces; and Archie, in Gothenburg. Grand View Cemetery Gothenburg Nebraska.
