Daily American Republic, Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Sunday, August 15, 1999: Muriel Ruth Steward, 85, of Poplar Bluff died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at Cedargate. Mrs. Steward was born March 2, 1914, in the Hammtown community in Butler County. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Liberty Baptist Church. In her earlier years, she was an active youth leader in church and 4-H clubs. In 1934, she married Everett Steward. He died Aug. 13, 1989. Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Lance of Poplar Bluff; two sons, Wayne Steward of Paradise, Texas, and Steven E. Steward of Poplar Bluff; one brother, Lee Chronister of Anchorage, Alaska; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be a 11 a.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral will follow at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Hockersmith officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
