Raymond Ferris Williamson

Aberdeen Daily News, Aberdeen, South Dakota, Thursday, November 20, 1958, Page 1: Attorney Dies at His Home. A longtime Aberdeen attorney, Ray F. Williamson, 75, died unexpectedly at his home at 522 S. Arch St., Wednesday afternoon. He was the senior partner in the firm of Williamson and Schutz. Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. P. T. Monaghan officiating. Burial will be in Rochester, Minn., Sunday afternoon. The Gates Funeral Home is in charge of services. Rosary will be said at 8:15 p.m. Friday at the Gates Funeral Home.
Mr. Williamson was born June 24, 1883 at Oronoco, Minn., and grew to manhood there. He was graduated from Rochester, Minn., High School and then attended both the Universities of Minnesota and Northwestern. He was a member of the Northwestern football team.
Started at Eureka. He received his law degree from Northwestern in 1904 and then entered his brother's law office at Eureka, where he also served as court reporter. In 1908 he was admitted to practice law in South Dakota and in 1909 came to Aberdeen, where he was associated with the law firm of Taubman and Williamson. In 1925 firm became McNulty, Williamson and Smith and in 1927, the firm of Williamson, Smith and Williamson. In 1937 the firm of Williamson and Williamson was organized, his partner being his nephew, Alan Williamson. Later he maintained a law firm with his son, Bernard, and the last few years with Ray Schutz.
In Legislature. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Delta Tau Delta, legal fraternity; the South Dakota Bar Assn., of which he was a past president; the American Bar Assn., the Brown County Bar Assn., the Order of Elks and a past president of Rotary Club, Quarterback Club and the Chamber of Commerce. He served as state's attorney for Brown County and was a member of the state Legislature for a number of terns from Brown County, serving as speaker of the House in 1927-1928. He was a 30 year member of the Aberdeen Country Club.
Survivors include his widow; one daughter, Mrs. George (Marian) Wagner, Oshkosh, Wis., and two sons, Kenneth of Rochester, Minn., and Bernard of Arlington, Va. Ten grandchildren, a nephew, Alan Williamson, Aberdeen, and a sister, Mrs. Seth Richardson [Richmond], Alder Point, Calif., also survives.
