This son of John Kirkpatrick was born in Madison County, Illinois, 8 December 1808. A headstone in the Old Rock Church Cemetery bears the names of Francis Walker Kirkpatrick and his wife Ann, but also the name of W. H. Hamilton, died 16 July 1867 at the age of 71. We can only presume that this is the father of Ann Hamilton Kirkpatrick.

As with other Kirkpatrick's living in the area in 1832, Francis Walker Kirkpatrick served with Captain James Craig's Company in the Illinois Mounted Volunteers under the command of Colonel Henry Dodge. This service stint was from the spring of 1832 until the fall of the same year. Kirkpatrick was a private. he received two bounty land warrants for this military service. The first application was made from Franklin County, Missouri, in 1851 and the second from Grant County, Wisconsin, in 1855.

F. W. worked at mining and smelting in Wisconsin for some ten years, then went to Lake Superior to work in the copper mines of that area. he departed Wisconsin for Missouri and then once again returned to Wisconsin. Two years later, he went to Pike's Peak, Colorado, where he spent one year and then returned to Wisconsin. Kirkpatrick made four different land purchases in 1835 in Iowa County, Michigan Territory, as recorded at the Mineral Point, Wisconsin, land office (National Archives, Record Group No. 49, Nos. 505, 227, 391 and 887).

F. W. Kirkpatrick died intestate at Wingville, Grant County, Wisconsin. His survivors were his wife and one daughter, ". . .eleven years of age on the 19th of December 1862, named Mary Alice. . ." His estate was estimated in June of 1863 as $4,000.00 worth of real estate and $1,450.00 in other personal property. His administrators were his wife Ann Kirkpatrick and Mahlon Fawcett, Sr.

Appraisal papers indicate that he owned property amounting to 320 acres in Grant County, a house and lot in the village of Wingville, some mineral land in Vernon County, as well as property in the Villages of Viroqua, Vernon County, and Point Andrew, Richland County. Among notes due the estate are one from G. W. Kirkpatrick and another from A. G. Parkinson, who was married to Sarah Felina Kirkpatrick, Francis Walker's sister.
