Christopher Progress, Christopher, Illinois, Thursday, September 23, 1943, Page 1, Col. 2: Sanford Brown Dies at Du Quoin. Sanford Brown died at his home in Du Quoin Sunday afternoon. He was born in Barren township Aug. 6, 1865, and in that township he had followed the occupation of farming most of his life. Three years ago he moved to Du Quoin, where he resided until his death. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Phoebe Folden Brown; one son, Alonzo Brown, Sesser; one daughter, Mrs. Jennie Johnson of Barren township; two brothers, Matthew Brown of Dixon, Ill., and Ben Brown of Benton; one sister, Mrs. Nora Payne of Jefferson county, eight grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Horse Prairie Baptist church at 11 o'clock Tuesday. Interment was at the Horse Prairie cemetery.
