Sandusky Register, Sandusky, Ohio, Saturday, March 17, 2012: Doris B. White, 98, of Sandusky, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012, in Erie County Care Facility, Huron Township. She was born Jan. 4, 1914, in Northeast, Md., came to Sandusky as a child and resided here the rest of her life. She loved playing the violin that she had learned as a youngster and RVing - locally and spending winters in McAllen, Texas, for 20 years, where she helped tutor children in reading. The love of sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking and baking kept her busy, as well as hiking well into her 70s. Riding the rapids of the Grand Canyon in 1967 with her son was one of the many highlights of her life. Doris was employed as a waitress with Plum Brook Country Club for many years. She also had worked in the cafeteria at Adams Junior High and retired from the Stonehouse Restaurant in Sandusky. She was a volunteer with Erie Metro Parks and was a member of First Baptist Church, Sandusky. She is survived by one son Robert (Kathy) White Jr., of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; one daughter Sylvia (Alan) McGreevy, of Chula Vista, Calif.; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert T. White in 2002, to whom she was married for more than 60 years; and eight brothers and sisters. Private services for the family took place in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky. Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave., was in charge of arrangements.
