Kenneth August Brandt

Kenneth A. Brandt, 87, of 1116 Ancestor Lane, Mosinee, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at his home with his family at his side after a brief bout with pancreatic cancer. His final days were spent with the aid of Ministry Home Hospice Care.
He was born Oct. 31, 1923, in Dancy, the son of the late William and Daisy (Babcock) Brandt. He married Veronica Nechuta on Oct. 1, 1951, in Iron Mountain, Mich. She died March 17, 2011. In August of 1948, Kenneth joined the military where he served in the 3rd Armor Division as a medic at Fitzsimons GH in Denver, Colo. He received an honorable discharge due to a hardship at home and then started taking over the responsibilities of the family farm with his parents.
After marrying Veronica they continued farming together. Ken was also an independent cattle hauler for Equity Livestock of Stratford for many years. He also served as a supervisor and then the town chairman for 35 years for the town of Green Valley. He took great pride in this township and was instrumental in seeing that a new town hall was built and in providing better fire/rescue services for the township.
Survivors include his children, Kenneth J. Brandt, Marshfield, Carolyn (Glen) Meidl, Hewitt, Robert (Tamara) Brandt, Medford, Susan (Jeffrey) Feit, Mosinee, and Kathleen (Bruce) Busche, Stratford; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Frances Thanig, Ruth Thanig, Amelia Osterbrink, Evelyn Nechuta and Dorelin Nechuta; and a brother-in-law, William (Nancy) Nechuta.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gary; his brothers, Fred, Archie and Edalee Brandt; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Serbella and Joe Rutkowski, and Della and Walter Hafenbredl; and his brothers-in-law, Glen Thanig, Justin Thanig, Pat Osterbrink, Benjamin (Virginia), John, Joseph, Charlie and Martin Nechuta.
A Christian Celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church, town of Green Valley. The Rev. Darryl W. Kenagy will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery next to his beloved Veronica, his wife of 59 years.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee. Visitation will be again from 10 a.m. Friday until time of services at the church.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Michelle Rule, Mike Meidl, Jesse Brandt, Matthew Brandt, Lee Feit and Jack Busche.
