From Doris Curry:

Quincy Daily Journal, 28 November 1906, pg. 8. A COUSIN OF LINCOLN IS 84 ~ John H. Hanks of this city celebrates his birthday anniversary. ~ John H. Hanks, who claims to be a cousin of Abraham Lincoln, and who for a number of years has resided in the city with his two sisters on North Fourth street in the Fisher building, celebrating his 84th birthday anniversary yesterday in a quiet way. Mr. Hanks is a native of Indiana and came to Illinois with his parents in early life, his father, Joseph Hanks, being the youngest brother of Mrs. Nancy Hanks. The Lincoln and Hanks families settled on a farm in Melrose township, near Quincy, at the same time. The Lincoln family later moved to Springfield. Mr. Hanks moved from his farm to Quincy a few years ago and is now living here with his two sisters. While he shows the infirmities of age, his memory is still bright and clear.
