Daily Mountain Eagle, Jasper, Alabama, Wednesday, September 19, 2001: Esther Kiker Powell, 92, of Jasper died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at her residence. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 20, 2001, at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Walker Memory Gardens. Rev. Bertus West, Thomas Aaron and Kennith Bishop will officiate. Kilgore-Green Funeral Home will direct. Powell was a 1934 graduate of Jefferson Hillman Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a nurse in the Jasper area until her retirement at the age of 67. She was a faithful life long member of Boldo United Methodist Church. She was a concerned and giving member of the Boldo Community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Almus Powell; two brothers, Garfield and Douglas Kiker; two sisters, Pearl Dowdey and Jessie Doris Kiker; and parents, Andrew and Alice Kiker. She is survived by four daughters, Sabra Barnett and husband, Huey of Texas, Linda Comer and husband, Kenneth of Arley, Mary Green and husband, Douglas of Jasper, and Jane Nichols and husband, Wayne of Arley; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Lee Kiker and wife, Ruth of Jasper; three sisters, Bessie Dowdey of Jasper, Ola Mae Girard and husband, Donald of Ray, Mich., and Dorothy Ramsey of Huntsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Methodist Children's Home in memory of Esther Powell.
