Posted at findagrave.com: The son of Elmer E. Hicks and Martha A. Kirkpatrick, Arthur married Emma Marie Hawthorne about 1924. They were the parents of 2 children, but divorced in the early to mid-1930's. Children: 1 son, 1 daughter. Arthur married LaVerna Deahl on 10 Apr 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri. They were the parents of at least 3 children. Arthur worked as a shift foreman at the Shell Oil Refinery in Madison County, Illinois for 33 years. He was a self-employed photographer as well. He owned and operated the Hicks Studio and Camera Store in Alton for 23 years. LaVerna was a clerk at the Children's Shop at the Alton Square shopping mall in Alton, Illinois. Children: 1 son, 2 daughters. At the time of his death at St. Joseph's Hospital, Arthur was 70 years, 4 months and 23 days old. He was survived by his second wife, LaVerna; 3 daughters, Lucille Wille of Carpenter, Illinois, Jean Clayton of Alton, Illinois, and Patricia Cichlar of Palatine, Cook County, Illinois; 1 son, Billie Gene; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and 1 sister, Mary Burkitt of Benton, Illinois. In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by 1 son, Arthur Scott Hicks, Jr., who passed away when he was almost 2-years-old. Visitation was held after 7 p.m. on 18 Feb 1975 at Smith Funeral Home Alton. Franklin Masonic Lodge rites took place at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services were conducted there at 1 p.m. the following afternoon. The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the American Cancer Society.
