Obituary from Moose Jaw Evening Times, July 10, 1917: R. Wait*, of Mortlach, was almost instantly killed in auto accident near Buffalo Lake at 10 o'clock this morning. R. Wait of Mortlach was almost instantly killed this morning shortly before 10 o'clock, about one miles east of Alec McCartney's farm, near Buffalo Lake when the heavy touring car in which he was riding turned turtle in a hollow and crushed him to death. His wife and child and a brother, who were in the car with him, had time to jump before the car turned although all a had a narrow escape. The deceased started out from Mortlach this morning in company with his wife, child and brother, for Regina Beach, were they intended spending the day and when going up the log hill, just east of McCartney's, something went wrong with the steering gear and the unfortunate man lost control of the car. In some way or other the brakes also jammed and would not work and the heavy car plunged into a hollow, pinning Mr. Wait beneath it. Dr. Hourigan, of Moose Jaw, was soon on the scene, but despite all medical aid, the unfortunate man's injuries proved fatal. Broadfoot Brothers of Moose Jaw were summoned to the scene of the accident shortly after 10.30 o'clock and the remains were brought to the city. Interment will take place at Mortlach tomorrow. Coroner Hourigan decided that an inquest would be unnecessary.
*Unknown why Otis Waite is referred to as R. Wait
