On page 87 of Stephen Clason of Stamford, Connecticut, in 1654 and Some of His Descendants by William B. Lapham, printed in 1892, it states Joseph R. Clason and family resided in Amerdale, Kansas. This could be Amourdale, Kansas, which is now part of Kansas City.

On the 1900 U. S. Census of Kansas City, Wyandotte Co., Kansas, Joseph Clason appears with his wife Mary and children Alva, Bessie, Frank, Ida and Louise. Also in the household is Hanna Bushnell, his mother-in-law, age 72 born, May 1828, a widow, mother of 8, 5 of whom are currently living. Joseph works as a laundryman. He and Mary have been married 18 years. Mary is the mother of 5 all of whom are currently living. Alva works as a salesman of flowers.

On the 1905 Kansas Census the family is living in Kansas City, Kansas.

On the 1910 U. S. Census of Kansas City, Wyandotte Co., Kansas, Joseph R. Clason appears with his wife Mary A. and children Alva J. , Ida E., Frank l. Also in the household is his brother-in-law Edward Bushnell, his son Charles L., Charles' wife Eva M. and daughter Edith M. Joseph is a coach cleaner for the railroad. Alva works as a machinist in construction, Ida works as a stenographer at a distillery, Edward works as a house carpenter and Charles works as a machinist in a factory.

On the 1920 U. S. Census of Kansas City, Wyandotte Co., Kansas, Joseph Clasen appears with his wife Mary A. Joseph is a stationary fireman on the steam railroad. They are living at 901 Gilmore St.

On his death certificate, Joseph R. Clason was working as a janitor for the Missouri Pacific Rail Road.
