Zella (Edgett) McKnight, 84, of 3629 U.S. 27 North, Tekonsha, died in Leila Hospital, Monday, Feb. 19 after a lengthy illness. She was born Sept. 13, 1906, in Big Hill, Ky., to Stephen and Maggie (Barer) [Baker] Engle. She was married Feb. 2, 1973, in Marshall to William McKnight. She moved to the Battle Creek area as a teenager and was formerly employed at the Battle Creek Sanitarium Hospital, the former Post Hotel and the Hart Hotel. She retired as banquet hostess from the hart Hotel in November 1972. She is survived by her husband, William; a step-daughter, Barbara McKnight of Grand Ledge; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Arnold Engle of Battle Creek; and two sisters, Sally Hall and Ora Baird, both of Battle Creek. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucienne Flottemesch, in 1950. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshall, with the Rev. James L. Barrett officiating. A vigil mass will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Putnam's of Tekonsha. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha.
