El Paso Times, El Paso, Texas, September 3, 2003, Page B 2: Spillman. Eugenia Dena Kirkpatrick Dwigans Spillman, 86, passed away September 2, 2003. She was preceded in death by her parents J. W. Kirkpatrick and Anne Noble. Mr. Kirkpatrick was one of the first Ford distributors in the United States and founded the El Paso Kiwanis Club. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Noble Kirkpatrick, Virginia Jones, Lyla Neuhouse and Annie Laurie Wallender, her son, Perry Dwigans and her first husband Raymond Dwigans. She is survived by her husband Andrew W. Spillman, grandson Perry Dwigans, Jr., nieces Eugenia Lynd, Virginia Roddy and Alice Mancell. She attended El Paso High School, Austin High School and graduated from Radford School for Girls. Later she studied Art in California. She returned to El Paso and worked for El Paso National Bank where she met her first husband Raymond Dwigans.
Dena was active in various community organizations including P.E.O., where she served as President and held other offices in Chapter M. She was a founding member of the Pan American Round Table and a former member of the Lower Valley Women's Club. She was active in the P.T.A. and taught Sunday School at the First Presbyterian Church. She also was a reviewer for the Book club of El Paso. She entertained John F. Kennedy during his election campaign for Presidency. After the inauguration of Lyndon B. Johnson, a close personal friend, she was invited to attend the White House on numerous occasions. She was also close personal friends with Gov. John Connelly, Sen. Ralph Yarbrough and actor Gilbert Roland. Services will be Thursday September 4, 2003 at St. Clement Episcopal Church. The Rev. Bill Francis officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris and Jack Bailey, Devon and Mark Cloud, Jack Hunt and Scott Spillman. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the El Paso Sheriff's Posse. Interment services will be private. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Alzheimers Assoc. of El Paso, 4400 N. Mesa, El Paso, TX 79902.
