Doris Marie Hamblin was born 15 August 1941 in Houlka, Chickasaw County, Mississippi. On 26 December 1959 she married in Sledge, Quitman County, Mississippi to Bobby Joe Mayo, son of S. T. and Beulah Bell (Balen) Mayo. He was born 13 June 1940 in Sledge, Mississippi and died 16 May 1980 in Batesville, Panola County, Mississippi.
There was one child born of the marriage.
The Daily Leader, Brookhaven, Mississippi, Friday, June 4, 2010: A woman killed in a nine-vehicle crash on Memorial Day in Illinois was a former Copiah-Lincoln Community College employee and Wesson resident, officials said.
Sheila Douglas, 61, most recently of Batesville, was with her mother, Juanita Hall, 80, and family friend Doris Mayo, 68, both of Sarah, Miss., and her sister, Anne Faust, 58, of Sardis, when the accident occurred, said Coles County, Ill., Coroner Ed Schniers.
Douglas, Hall, and Mayo were all killed in the accident when an18-wheeler ran into cars that were slowing for construction and crushed the SUV that the women were traveling in, officials said.The accident occurred Monday on Interstate 57 near Mattoon, Ill. The women were vacationing to see east-central Illinois Amish country.
Faust remains hospitalized in a burn unit in Springfield, Ill.,said Co-Lin Public Relations Director Natalie Davis. Her status is unknown. Davis said Douglas was a secretary in the Career Tech Division at Co-Lin for several years, and left the school in 2005, when she moved to north Mississippi.
According to Illinois State Police, the accident, which injured another 12 people, is still under investigation. Officials told Illinois media outlets that the crash was probably caused by driver inattention.
There will be a double funeral service for Douglas and Hall on Friday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Batesville. Davis said in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations.
"They asked people to make donations to their favorite charity,"said Davis adding that Douglas was much loved by her co-workers.
