"Bill" Hamblin was a true and loyal soldier to all who knew him and the voice of reason in a sea of stress. He was a father, grandfather and retired senior vice president of human resources of Goudchaux's/Maison Blanche. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany. He was a fisherman, counsel to many and a longtime member of Broadmoor Methodist Church. He died in his sleep at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, July 30, 2006, at the Butterfly Wing facility of Hospice of Baton Rouge. He was 70, born in Sledge, Miss., and moved to Baton Rouge in 1967 to work for Goudchaux's. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Sandy; son, William Jr. and wife Sharon and their three children, William III, James Carl and Grace Ann; sisters, Ella Matthews, Doris Mayo, Mary Sue McCarty and husband Dean, Earline Parish, Frances Brewer, Gertrude Fair and husband LeRoy, and Myrtle Mayo; a brother, James and his wife, Sharon; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Pauline and James Franklin Hamblin; sister, Flora Chism; brother, Mack Hamblin; and infant daughter, Kathryn Lee Hamblin. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Monday, July 31, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Tuesday, Aug. 1, from 11 a.m. until service at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Ken Carroll of Broadmoor Methodist. Interment at Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery, Booneville, Miss., next to his daughter, at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Baton Rouge or Cancer Services of Baton Rouge.
