On the 1860 U. S. Census of Beaver Dam, Dodge Co., Wisconsin, Wilmot is listed as Madison W., age 11, female. He is with his parents Madison E. and Ann Babcock and siblings.

On the 1870 U. S. Census of Beaver Dam, Dodge Co., Wisconsin, Wilmot [indexed as Milnop] is now 21, a farm laborer living with his parents Madison and Anna.

1880 U. S. Census for Beaver Dam, Dodge Co., Wisconsin Page 28C, William Babcock, age 32 born Wisconsin, occupation farmer, wife Adah Babcock, age 28, born Wisconsin, one child listed Ivanillie Babcock, age 9, born Wisconsin. James Landge at school listed as adopted, age 11 or 17, with parents born in Ireland and Scotland.

Wilmot Babcock is in the South Dakota Land Patents Database as paying cash for land in Spink County, at Belle Plaine. He bought 160 acres on February 23, 1887 and 160 acres on September 1, 1893.

On the 1900 U. S. Census of Belle Plaine Township, Spink Co. South Dakota, W. M. Babcock appears with his wife Addah and children Willie, Daisy and Hollis. W. M. is a farmer. W. M. and Addah have been married for 31 years. Addah is the mother of four all of whom are currently living.

On the 1910 U. S. Census of Auburndale Township, Wood Co., Wisconsin shows William M. Babcock age 62, married 40 years and his wife Ada, age 58, born in Wisconsin, along with their children Daisy age 22 and Hollis their son age 18. William is a farmer. Hollis works as a farm laborer on the home farm. Ada is the mother of 4, 3 of whom are currently living. Daisy and Hollis were born in South Dakota.

On the 1920 U. S. Census of Auburndale, Wood Co., Wisconsin, Wilmit [Wilmot] Babcock appears with his son Halles [Hollis]. Wilmot is a widower and Hollis is single. Both men do dairy farming.

Obituary from Marshfield Herald, Thursday, August 21, 1924: This contains several errors, corrections will be in brackets. Wilhelm [Wilmot] Babcock who since 1900 has been operating a farm east of Marshfield in the town of Auburndale died Monday evening at his home after a ten days illness of cancer of the liver. Prior to that time he had been enjoying the best of health and the end came suddenly. Deceased was born in Beaver Dam on November 7th, 1850 where he grew to manhood. In 1870 [1869] he was united in marriage to Miss Ada Clayson who preceded him in death in 1912 [1910]. The first home of Mr. and Mrs. Babcock was made in Beaver Dam where they resided until 1881 when they moved to Dolan, N. Dak. [Doland, South Dakota]. In 1900 they sold their Dakota farm and came to this section and since then have resided on the farm now operated by a son, Hollis and family. Two daughters also survive. They are Mrs. Daisy Bryant [Brandt] of Range Line and Mrs. Lelah Smith of Beaver Dam. One brother, Ben Babcock at Beaver Dam also survives. Funeral services will be held this afternoon from the Norwegian Lutheran Church in the town of Auburndale and will be in charge of Rev. Oaberg of Greenwood.
