Obituary from Marshfield News, Marshfield, Wisconsin, Thursday, Nov. 4, 1910: Mrs. Babcock Dies from Bullet Wound. After a noble fight of six days Mrs. Wilmot Babcock, suffering from a gunshot wound in the head died at St. Joseph's hospital on Saturday of last week without regaining consciousness. The accident that caused her death and one which leaves a once happy home in the deepest mourning was recorded in the News of last week. It was one of those unaccountable happenings governed by this unseen hand of destiny. In the quietude of a peaceful home surrounded by loved ones Mrs. Babcock sat in a rocking chair conversing with her daughter. Hollis her 18 year old son was preparing to go rabbit hunting and with a 22 caliber rifle thrown across his arm was about to leave the room. Somehow the piece was discharged the bullet burying itself in the brain of his mother. There was no cry of pain from the stricken one, only a slight tremor of the body. Everything with in medical skill was done but there was no recall. The family reside on a farm seven miles east of this city where they have lived continuously the past ten years. Deceased was a woman who was dearly beloved by all who knew her---a kind hearted mother and devoted wife. Her sudden and tragic death has cast a gloom over the little community in which she lived that time only will erase. The funeral has held at Auburndale Tuesday the whole country round about turned out to pay their last respects to a loved neighbor and respected woman. Alva [Adah] H. Clason was born at Clason Prairie Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge county, March 2nd 1852. She was the eldest daughter of Michael B. and Sarah Clason. She was married Dec. 25th 1869 to Wilmont [Wilmot] M. Babcock. Four children were the fruit of their marriage, one of whom preceded the mother to the better land. Three remain who with the husband mourn the departure of a faithful wife, a loving tender mother. They are, Mrs. Lelah Smith of Beaver Dam, Daisy and Willie who still remain at home and whose grief and sorrow can only be measured by the greatness of their loss. She is also survived by two brothers and one sister, James B. Clason of Pallisate, Minn., Jesse A. Clason, Neosha and Mrs. Minnie Baker of Milwaukee.
