Waterloo Daily Courier, Waterloo, Iowa, 8 March 1946: Woman Hit by Car Dies of Injuries. Death results at 2:12 a.m. Friday from injuries received by Mrs. Lulu Becker, 61, of 303 East Mullan avenue, when a car stuck her at East Fifth and Franklin streets intersection Thursday night. According to Merle C. Jillinger, 31, of 233 Ash street, driver of the car involved, Mrs. Becker stepped in the path of the auto as it was proceeding through the intersection northwest on Franklin after he had stopped at the stop sign there. Mrs. Becker was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital with back and hip injuries. Her daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Walsh, Clear Lake, Ia., was killed in an accident about 10 years ago. Her daughter's husband, Dale, was killed in the same accident at Clear Lake. Born Lulu Coler Feb. 28, 1885, in Nashua, Ia., she was the daughter of Albert and Effie Coler. She was married in Nashua, Ia., 37 years ago to August Becker. Following their marriage, they lived at Minneapolis, Minn. for approximately five years and then moved to a farm near Waterloo. They lived on this farm for a year and then moved to a farm near Nashua, Ia. She came to Waterloo from Nashua approximately five years ago following the death of her husband. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lucille Scoles, Sanborn, Ia., a sister, Mrs. William Becker, Glendale, Cal., and two grandchildren. Besides her husband, a daughter preceded her in death. She was a member of the Methodist church at Nashua, Ia., The body was taken to O'Keefe & Towne funeral home. Funeral arrangements will be made pending the arrival of the daughter from Sanborn, Ia.
