San Mateo Times, San Mateo, California, Thursday, April 28, 1966, Page 2, Col. 4: Concord Man Kills Self. Concord (AP)---A Concord real estate man died today from what police said was a self-inflicted rifle wound after critically wounding the woman who had rejected him. Ralph Thomas Aldrich, 57, died at Contra Costa hospital in Martinez. The woman, Mrs. Mary E. Elledge, 43, a widow, was in John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek.

Police said Aldrich came to Concord two years ago, leaving his wife of more than 30 years. Officers said Mrs. Elledge recently tried to stop seeing him because of the difference in their ages. Police said Aldrich went to her home in Concord Wednesday evening and found her working in the garden with her 15-year-old daughter. When she again told him she did not wish to see him, he reportedly wounded her with a shotgun. The shocked daughter called police, who went to Aldrich's home and found him in the bathroom with a rifle bullet wound in the head.
