Burlington Gazette, Burlington, Iowa, Thursday, June 29, 1922, Page 6, Col. 3 & 4: Salem, Ia., June 28---Friends and relatives of Salem vicinity were shocked to hear of the sudden death of little Wendell Alvin Garretson, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Sumner Garretson, which occurred at his home five miles east of Salem Sunday afternoon. although seemingly a rugged child, yet during the past year he has had considerable trouble with tonsils and adenoids and an operation was considered necessary. Yet before the operation could be performed he had passed away. Little Wendell, who was only three years old, was born March 8, 1919, and was a beautiful child in both looks and ways. He always loved the flowers, birds and everything that was beautiful and his sweet and winsome ways will always be remembered and missed by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his loss his parents, two brothers and one sister, four grandparents and many other near relatives. Funeral services were conducted from the Friends church. Tuesday afternoon, June 27, at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. Miss Florence Baker, Assisted by Rev. Miss Viola Smith. Interment in the South cemetery.
