"Educated at Rugby and Brasenose College, Oxford. Barr. (Inner Temple), 1877. J.P. and C.C. (Lancs). A Governor of Rossall School, member of Garstang Board of Guardians and Rural District Council, of Whittingham C.M.H. Committee, and of numerous other local organizations. Well-known Lancashire ornithologist and naturalist. Founder of St. Michael's Village Museum, and author of "The Birds of St. Michael's" (printed privately, 1924). Succeeded his father to the St. Michael's and Heywood estates and as patron of the living of St. Michael's. Died unmarried, being succeeded in the St. Michael's estate by his 2nd. surviving nephew, Edward Windham Hornby (q.v.), and in the Heywood estate by his eldest nephew, Rev. Hugh Leycester Hornby (q.v.)"
