Ven. William Hornby M. A.

"Vicar of St. Michael's-on-Wyre, Archdeacon of Lancaster and Canon of Manchester Cathedral. Educated at Winchester and Christ Church College, Oxford, (B.A., 1833; M.A., 1836). Curate to his father at St. Michael's, 1834-47. Succeeded his father as vicar, 1847. Also succeeded his father to the St. Michael's and Heywood estates, and as patron of the living of St. Michael's. Rural Dean, 1854. Archdeacon of Lancaster, 1870-95. Resigned the living of St. Michael's in favor of his second surviving son, Rev. Phipps John Hornby, M.A., (q.v.) 1885. A Governor of Rosall School. Succeeded in the St. Michael's and Heywood estates by his eldest surviving son, Hugh Phipps Hornby, Esq., (q.v.), who also succeeded him as Patron of the living of St. Michael's."
