Luke's 2nd wife is one of the more confusing parts of this tree. I haveother last names for Elizabeth: Gullet, & Haley. Now they are buried inthe Haley cemetary, and there were Gullets in the area also. I alwayshad the name Newsom until I received a copy of a letter that Betty JoFletcher got from the Washington Co. Historical Society re: Luke's gunand shot pouch donated by either a Wm. or John Wright in 1928. It ismailed from Dexter Missouri Nov. 1, 1928 and lists Wife Elizabeth asbeing a Haley or Gullet. Luke outlived his son that is my ancestor(Alfred Persinger). Elizabeth allegedly was of Irish descent. The mostdetailed account of Elizabeth's family is from Eric Newsom of Reston, VA.See my NOTES on Elizabeth's alleged Father Richard NEWSAM. (spelled thenwith an A rather than an O.) He lists Elizabeth's death date as 1879,rather than 1871. I'll have to check to see my resource for the 1871date, but I bet his 1879 is more likely than 1871. I think their isstrong evidence that Elizabeth's maiden name was NEWSOM. She is buriednext to Luke in the Halley cemetary and their tombstone states: LUKE PERSINGER died Jan. 2, 1871, aged 88 years ELIZABETH PERSINGER died Aug.2, 1871, aged 68 years.
