Mary Ann Abbott

(9 Oct 1825 - 21 Jul 1887)

Mary is listed in the 1880 census living with John Johnson & his twochildren by his 1st wife - their names & ages: Mary C. 19, & Wilford 17. Also living with them was Mary's youngest son Albert Burton Persinger, age 16. The rest of Mary's own children had apparently already left thehome by 1880. Of interest is their home must have been next to a JamesPersinger married to a Nancy. This is taken from Jefferson Township,Washington Co. census page 14 Family 120, dwelling 115. I have beenunable to determine the names or whereabouts of Mary Ann's parents, butof interest is a John ABBOTT buried @ the Walnut Ridge Cemetary (same asMary Ann) B:2-21-1799, D:9-19-1858 - those dates would fit right for herFather, but there is no mention of his spouse and the Cemetary book forJefferson Twp. was not able to find a relationship to Mary Ann (butneither to anyone else did it mention he was related to.) John is listedon the 1850 census, age 69 (b.1781) from NC, with wife Elizabeth, 13years younger, age 56 from VA, I suspect this is a 2nd wife? Also we arenot 100% certain if John Wesley Abbott (B:1820, D:1867) was Mary Ann'sBrother or not, but this is very likely. He is not shown buried inWashington County. Also it should be mentioned that Cora ElizabethJOHNSON who 1st married Lewis Persinger and later Alfred P. Gibbs statedthat her Father was a John JOHNSON.
This Mary Ann (ABBOTT) PERSINGER-JOHNSON is buried with JohnJohnson's 1st wife (also named Mary A.! in the Walnut Ridge Cemetary, butwhere is John Johnson ??
Another important lead is that of a Jacob ABBOTT (b:1802) & wifeElizabeth YOUNG (b:1809) both of Halifax Co. VA. had a daugh. Mary Ann b:1827 Born near a Stokes, NC with her sibs: Jacob 1828, Susan 1829 &Armistead 183?. all born in NC., supposedly the Father, Jacob died inGordon County, GA? Jacob's parents were Armistead ABBOTT,& FrancesPRIDDY; Elizabeth's parents were Robert YOUNG & Mary Polly AISTRAP orEASTRIF?. This information came from Lillian L. Kernon, 1101 Pinckney Ave.Leesville, LA 71446 & was on the ancestry CD-ROM in the my local McCleanCo. Historical Library.
I think my best lead on her would be to search for an obituary of herin the paper of Salem, IN? I will write to the Washington Co. HistoricalMuseum in Salem to ask for help.
No results finding an Obit. in Salem. My CD-ROM index for theIndiana, Washington Co. 1860 census shows the following ABBOTTs: Barton,pg. 348 Gibson Twp.; John pg 348 Gibson Twp.; John W. pg 287 FranklinTwp.; & Miles pg 348 Gibson twp. however 1860 may be too late to expectthese to be her parents, possibly sibs?
