Served in Sir Charles Warren's Bechuanaland Expedn., 1884-85; in South African War, 1899-1901 (despatches and V.C.); in Great War; and in Home Guard in 2nd. World War. Awarded V.C. after Battle of Sanna's Post, 30 March, 1900, when in command of "Q" Battery, Royal Horse Artillery, during South African War. Commanded 4th. Div., R.A., 1909-13; R.A. 3rd. Corps, 1914-15; and R.A. Southern Army, 1916-18. Sup. Inspector, Min. of Pensions, 1918-19. C.B., 1911. C.M.G., 1916. J.P. (Berkshire), 1928.
