Rifle Brigade, of Hornblotton House, Alford, Somerset, and of Lordington, Chichester, Sussex. Educated at Eton and R.M.C., Sandhurst. Served with 4th. Battn., Rifle Brigade, in Afghan War, 1878-79, and was present at the attack and capture of Ali Musjid and in expedns. to Kunar and Lughman Valleys (Medal with Clasp). Served as Orderly Officer to Brig. Gen. Gordon in expedn. against Mahsood Wuzereas, 1881 (despatches). J.P., 1892, (Dorset and Somerset).
