Baby was a sister of Tom Fitzgerald who married Nora Moloney, a sister of Baby's husband, Jim.

Baby and James lived in Islandanny, Duagh, Co. Kerry, moving in the mid-1950s to Ballymacjordan, Duagh where they had purchased a farm from Gerard Giltenane, the husband of their niece Mary Moloney. In 1969 the farm was passed to Baby and James's son Ted.
